Sisters. Review/Poster/Trailer.

Brian De Palma's film's have never been a disappointment to me, "Carrie", "Black Dahlia", "Dressed To Kill", "Scarface", "Phantom Of The Paradise", "Casualties Of War", I could go on and on, although some of his films may have missed the mark with other reviewers he is always welcome here at Incredibly Strange Movies. It's one of his early films though I would like to point you towards.
Sisters. Australian trailer.
Sisters is one of the most understated and remarkable films I have ever seen, part Hitchcock suspense, part Argento, twisted giallo, it is a rare cinematic oddity of which there is really no other to compare it with. You will be gripped from start to finish as it's story unfolds, getting weirder and weirder as it goes along. Found recently again by myself on an old vhs tape in a second hand sale, within a few minutes I remembered seeing it from back in the late eighties, being thrust under my nose by my special effects friend Paul H, he said "you've got to see this", so I did but I must admit not being very impressed at the time, but seeing it again a few weeks back, I realised what an actual masterpiece it truly is.

There are so many things to like about it it's hard to begin but let's start with the look and cinematography, stylish would be an understatement, experimental would also be an understatement, it's everything you would expect from Hitchcock and Argento sort of combined together and you could be easily forgiven for mistaking it as one of their works, in it there is a gruesome totally out of the blue un-telegraphed shock stabbing, ton's of unusual camera angles and crane shots, very weird "flash-back" nightmare like scenes from the killers past, it just works and then some.

Margot Kidder (original Superman's Lois Lane) is a beautiful if very strange model, wanna-be actress who has a mysterious sister, she goes out on a date with an actor, William Finley from a small film she is making. Back at her apartment there is a murder and the body gets hidden inside a sofa bed. The rest of the film is spent unraveling who the murderer actually is and why, it is for this reason you should find it attractive and a damn good watch, so I will say no more, as things happen very early on within the first twenty minutes or so, so to add any more would ruin the effect and outcome for you.

Anyone familiar with Dario Argento's crime mysteries ie "Tenebrea", "The Bird With The Crystal Plumage", "Deep Red" will absolutely love this if they've not seen it, fan's of Hitchcock's "Rear Window", "Vertigo" and "Psycho" will also love it, "Sister's" is a cinematic "piece of work".

If you enjoy working out murder mystery plot's and event's, you need this film ... just when you think you've got it and worked things out, there is more to be revealed, fantastic to look at, filmed in black and white and colour, stylish pop art interior designs, split screen photography it has it all, exceptionally easy on the eye and imagination, gripping from start to the trippy weird finale, you can't go wrong.
