Hannibal: The Complete Season Two. UK DVD/Blu-ray Official Review.

Season Two lived up to and exceeded expectations, which I “binge-watched” on DVD, merrily, as oppose to it’s run on Satellite and Cable TV back in February. If you enjoyed the first season and like me were left wanting “second’s” it’s available on Blu-ray/DVD and on-demand as of the 22nd of September 2014.

The perfect continuation and compliment to season one and the original cinema series of movies, it does not disappoint at all. Luxury, elegant horror of the finest order, gruesome, addictive, repulsive and jaw dropping, the disbelief continues and goes beyond with surreal murder on top of surreal murder, each one topping the last.

Will Graham has been incarcerated for murder in Baltimore State Hospital For The Criminally Insane, presided over Dr Frederick Chilton, Will is being analysed and scrutinised by Dr Lecter. In fact Will has become something of an attraction, albeit like a “side-show freak”, a curiosity to wonder over, in his man-sized interrogation cage and face muzzle. Jack Crawford is convinced he’s guilty and that his protégée and friend has sadly, tragically, lost his mind using his empathy “gift”, working on all the previous bizarre serial murder cases.
The time and events in this new box set go by effortlessly as a viewer, enticing, detailed and completely satisfying, a visual treat of the macabre madness only humans can commit. Even if you’ve not seen the first season, I would seriously say you could join it season two and then go back to season one, easily. That’s the way “it-rolls”, “Hannibal: The Tv Series”, you will always want more, it’s so good. Everything is “top-shelf”, the acting/performances, the twisted, multi-layered plot, the direction, production values are extremely high and consistent, there is not a bad episode.
But you don’t really want to know that do you? You want to know are there some really gruesome scenes on offer? I know, I know, well, not to give to much away, yes there are some very abhorrent things to see, very. The Sculptures of Death and Unlawful Killing are back, some are like a large “Art de Mort” installation, some are small and some are large but all equally bizarre and surreal, the “bee-honey” episode is one of my favourites, for it’s sheer simply ghoulish inventiveness.
Quite a bit of blood too, this time, I should think to say that after filming, mops and buckets had to be employed, if not even an industrial suction pump to clean up the studio and sets.
If your new to it and love elegant horror, a la David Fincher, Dario Argento, Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch, this is most definitely for you, everyone plays their part to the full, the script is expertly written with many, clues, red herrings, the whole FBI Forensics hand book is wheeled out, and oh yes I nearly forgot, Dr Hannibal Lecter, he’s giving a dinner party and your invited, who knows, if you get too close to him and what he’s doing, it’ll be you on the menu next time.

HANNIBAL, THE COMPLETE SEASON TWO, featuring 13 episodes, is coming to DVD and Blu-ray on September 22nd following its EST release on September 1st.
The dark and haunting Sky Living series Hannibal returns for a second season, with more shocking revelations and games of psychological cat and mouse. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is locked in a mental asylum accused of Hannibal Lecter's crimes (Mads Mikkelsen). Now that Will sees Hannibal for what he truly is, he faces a fight to prove his own sanity and convince those closest to him he is innocent of murder. Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) is dealing with his own feelings about Will, and whether his protégé is in fact a cold-blooded killer. Looking for answers, Jack turns to a man he has come to trust: Hannibal Lecter. With Will locked up, Hannibal becomes Jack's new consultant on cases. Hannibal is torn between self-preservation and his desire to keep Will close to him, despite advice from his psychiatrist Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson) to stay away.

The deadly dance between these characters continues to turn in startling and unexpected ways, in a season that will show nothing can ever be the same again…

HANNIBAL is a one-hour drama series, exploring the early relationship of Thomas Harris’ famous characters – psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter and his patient, gifted FBI  criminal profiler Will Graham. From creator Bryan Fuller, Season Two is set to be even more explosive than the last!
